Fit Kitchen: The Praxis, Gnosis and Sunesis

I should have known that I was setting myself up when I asked Twitter what to write next. Of course, the answer is ‘write about three ships which can fit anything’. These ships have so many slots and bonuses that you could play a game of item hangar gambling with your fits. Ctrl+A everything you have and drag it on to see what sticks to the slots. You should all know me well enough by now, though. If I’m going to fuck up a ship with a rainbow of modules then I’m going to do it in style with 0.01% powergrid remaining.

The fits described in this article were created before the resistance nerf in April 2020. Post-patch revised fits will be marked with a ++ at the start of each fitting name although screenshots will not always be updated.

We’re looking at three Society of Conscious Thought ships today then, the Praxis, Gnosis, and Sunesis. Their stats are below as usual, but there is something else to know about how they all work. They all have perfectly balanced resists, they are all very slow, they all align very fast, and they typically lock fast too. This has historically made the Gnosis a nice choice for gatecamps and is the reason why you see them from time to time. They can lock you up before you warp, and if they don’t like what they see then they’ll leave.

Battleship – Praxis

So first up, I did some research ahead of time for this article and am not happy at all with what I found. There’s a particular set ‘delonewolf’ of videos out there which you’ll find by searching Youtube for ‘EVE Praxis’. He was demonstrating fits with heavy missile launchers and saying how great there are for sites. When someone has hundreds of likes and thousands of views you kind of expect them to know what they’re talking about, right?

Well, you’d be dead wrong. Especially so if you were caught using any of his fits. I’m not trying to throw shade at delonewolf here, but I want to emphasise that his Praxis fits are horrible and so are 90% of the Youtube comments praising similar versions of the ship. This isn’t a matter of opinion or even personal preference. The fits are straight up just using undersized weapons to achieve frigate-level DPS numbers in a 300m ISK battleship.

It’s for that reason that the first fit I have for you today is a PvE Praxis for conduits or whatever you like. I don’t typically run those sites, but I can base my theoretical numbers on what others use. What I came up with is a fit which will tank 558-750 omni, or 678-910 against trigs. It should deal about 1,200 DPS while having a jump drive and extra mods for application. Don’t listen to the haters about the Rapid Heavy 35s reload. DPS still ends up pretty great and the application of heavies is better than cruises.

But wait, there’s more! If you call now then you’ll get not one, but two Praxis PvE fits for the price of one. For real, I’ve included a shield fit below, too. Swap the mids as you wish and if you have fitting issues with either of these due to skills then check out my How 2 Fit guide. It’s not too difficult to modify these without destroying the original idea.

Some more clarification: These fits are for generic k-space content and are a good balance of tank and outgoing damage. If you’re looking to use a Praxis in a C3 wormhole then use my How 2 Krab guide.

As for actual PvP fits, there are plenty of those, too. My favourite by far has to be the turbodunk torpedo boat with a truckload of application mods. Nobody really realises how hard torps hit until their cloaky Loki is being alpha’d through its shield reps πŸ˜‰ I’ve had great fun with that fit, you just have to go all in and overheat everything you’ve got.

You could also take the more conventional battleship PvP route and go for an active rep brawler. Shield and armour versions are possible, but XLASB fits, in particular, are a bit iffy. They work, but the T1 Maelstrom outperforms them with ease. In fact, most shield Praxis fits are outperformed by something like a Tempest or even a mixed-tank Hyperion. My favourite active rep version is a triple armour rep setup. That’s really only because you can max your tank out at about 2k DPS against a specific damage type.

Other than these fits, you can do some pretty typical gatecamping stuff with a Praxis by utilising the good scan resolution. You can also get a max 178k EHP hull tank for baiting with, but you’re always going to be hounded by that atrocious CPU. I’ve got a version of that which uses a pathetic shield tank in combination with the hull. If you can slowly burst your shield while you burn through hull then it will look like much juicier bait. You’ll just have to watch my killboard for that fit though!

Battlecruiser – Gnosis

The Gnosis is an all-round reliable battlecruiser that you can pick up for stupid-cheap. When flying it, you are simultaneously unpredictable and also ‘just a Gnosis’. With some clever fitting you can really throw people off and get kills that nobody would have expected. Even a set of those bonused Gnosis drones can hit frigs hard before they know what’s going on. Of course, there’s also the gatecamp Gnosis, but that’s doing exactly the opposite of what’s good about the ship. You don’t want to be predictable.

So how do you fit it? Well, you can do anything at all really. The first two below are a very simple buffer-blaster Gnosis, and something I call Extreme Fitting Gymnastics. The former is only 75m ISK at time of writing and deals near enough 1000 DPS with scram, web, and a 4s align time. It’s a pretty tasty package, only let down by cap life and on-grid speed. You might be better to use a nos in the high-slot as I’ve done on the fit below just to keep your own guns and tank online. In some ways this is overshadowed by a solo Brutix, but I would put the Gnosis ahead purely because people don’t expect you to smash their face in quite so hard.

The second of these shield fits is a little special. It used to be 99.99% CPU and 100.00% PG, but I managed to make it cheaper by swapping things around to bring it to a nice 80m ISK. With a cheap Standard Blue Pill and Hardshell 2 it tanks 34k EHP per set of 9 XLASB charges. If you end the first reload cycle at full shield then this should theoretically tank 900 DPS worth of damage to get you to your second reload by the time you hit hull. In such a situation you are effectively flying a 100k EHP buffer ship, even better if you can get the fourth set of charges off. I tanked 211k the first time I flew this.

Of course, the Gnosis can do much more than that, though. Dual armour rep is a relatively common style of fitting and I can definitely vouch for it working. My version below goes for a metastasis adjuster rather than the extra tank. It helps the guns perform more as ‘set and forget’ so you can focus on tanking.

And as previously mentioned, there’s the gatecamp Gnosis. I hate that style of gameplay, but I hate bad fitting even more. Here’s my version which ends up around the 1000mm scan resolution figure. Enough to lock a destroyer in 1.5s. It won’t be your primary fast-locker, but it gets damage, tackle, and bumps on target fast while providing info links. Damage output is a respectable 618 DPS, but it can range out to 22+6km across gate with Scorch. A 64k EHP tank is unremarkable but is plenty enough to start taking reps if you’re into that style of camp.

There is one more fit. It’s not exactly the most elegant of fits you’ve ever seen, though. I call it The Everything Bagel and it has, well, everything. You’ve got Autos, Pulses, Blasters, Missiles, Nosferatus, Smartbombs. You’ve got a dual-large ancil shield booster tank. You’ve got a dual armour rep setup and hull tank to polish it off. This is not a ‘good’ fit but it sure as hell is fun. I recommend flying it at least once just to test your module management skills.

Destroyer – Sunesis

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a destroyer with frigate tank, frigate DPS, and cruiser speed.. what? I’ll say right up front that this isn’t a good ship. At least it isn’t when it comes to generic PvP. The sheer lack of damage on this ship makes it difficult to justify bringing, especially when so many of your slots are going to need to be devoted to improving the flimsy tank.

The one major upside it does have is the crazy scan resolution and align time. You can reach instalock within just two sensor boosters, and Low Friction Nozzle Joints + Inertial Stabilizers = instawarp. The problem herein is that there is no point to using it for gatecamping when the thrasher already exists. The Thrasher is so good, in fact, that entire fleets of ‘cockbag’ thrashers aren’t uncommon. They work surprisingly well.

So what do you do to make this work? You leverage bonuses. Full tilt blaster DPS is still below 400 DPS so I wouldn’t bother trying to do anything like that. Instead, use your agility. A nano arty fit is surprisingly decent when you have a small fleet of them. You can instawarp around systems in perfect safety and wait until someone gets complacent around a fleet of pathetic destroyers. You’ve got an ok 8.6k EHP, but still bugger all speed. If you start getting kited then just leave.

I can’t truly recommend it, though. For 25m ISK you can do a lot better for your money so this is only really an option if you want to do something with a set of 12 CCP gift crates; like me.

Just two fits for now! It’s not a good enough ship to warrant me spending much longer fitting the Sunesis. If you have any standout favourite fits then let me know in the comments below or on Twitter πŸ˜€

  1. I have a draft on my blog that’s called “The Sunesis is good at…” It’s not finished at all.
But I’m probably going to add a note that it’s not exactly good at pvp. Maybe if you warp on top of an unlucky explorers.
But then… any Interdictor with a scram is still better for that.

    • Well…. it’s ok-ish. The fleet fit I provide is worth it if you have the spare ships purely because of the novelty. Outside of that, it’s best as a hauler, or as a ship which sits inside lowsec plexes and does weird stuff with drones or neuts.

  2. Vadim Vadim

What’s better-armor or shield tanking for Praxis?

    • It depends entirely on what you want to do. I like an armour tank more since it gives you so many mid slots for EWAR. Shield tanked Praxis’ can be pretty damn good though. It just really depends on what you are fighting and what your goal is.

  3. Vadim Vadim

Can shield Praxis close c2 and c3 WH sites???

    • Yes a Praxis can do both. I have fits in my alpha clone guide (part 7 of How 2 Krab), and my low-class sites guide (part 3). Always make sure to compare your tank in Pyfa with the site DPS and neuts. How to do that is in part 7.

  4. Rift Rift

I’m trying to do sites in a c3 with your praxis fit, but I keep getting neuted out by the battleships. I can’t get close enough to use the Nos, so I’m leaking cap like crazy. Is there a way to fix this?

    • So if you’re using the one listed on this article then it’s more tailored towards hisec sites etc.

The one on my C3 sites article should be perfect for you and if not then it will likely be a skills issue. Make sure your cap management skills are up to par and use the implants if I provide them in the fit.

If all else fails then check out How 2 Krab part 7 for alpha clones. The fits in there have a LOT of wiggle room πŸ™‚

  5. requiredName requiredName

I like to use Sunesises as low-effort wormhole seeds, they have the same scanning bonus as a T1 Explo Frig with the respective Frigate skill at V while only requiring Spaceship Command I to fly and being cheaper than an Astero.

Hi Ashey, thanks for all the great articles.

So I’m looking at your Praxis Shield Tank fit and I am curious (because I am new and trying to learn more), why not remove a 1 of the 5 Shield Power Relay II’s and fit a Damage Control II instead?

The shield hp/s goes down sure but, the resists and buffer go up like 20k.

Thanks again for helping us all learn and krab.

    • Heya,

You did the first step in testing it which is great! I kept the Damage Control off because of exactly what you said which is the increased rep amount. If you’re facing large amounts of alpha then there is the argument that having a Damage Control is better, though.

  7. Dantes Dantes

    Hi,

From my point of view, the Sunesis is a phantastic ship for PvE. It can haul really fast for lvl 2 transport missions with its large cargo space and align time, it can do lvl 2 fight missions with the drones and long range weapons and will probably outperform many frigates and can then salvage the remainings with salvage drones, it can do exploration if you are in a system with many anomaliess and it can disappear quickly if required. As you can do transport and security missions, you can also chain missions behind each other taking a transport job and then accepting a security mission at the destination.
